Whoopity-doo

Was anyone excited, surprised or otherwise interested in last night’s Oscar outcomes?

For once, I’m not stating this out of hipper-than-thou pride: I predicted every winner before their names were called.

I saw Forrest Whitaker and Dame Helen Mirren’s Oscars coming back in September. Critics were falling all over themselves to see who could give each of them the most hyperbolized praise (and Whitaker’s was an awfully showy bio-pic performance).

If they didn’t give it to Scorcese this time, he never, EVER would have gotten it, and “The Departed” - it was good, entertaining and suspensful. I’m glad to see a dark Oscar winner.

Jennifer Hudson for “Dreamgirls”? Yawn. Alan Arkin for “Little Miss Sunshine”? Okay, but what a weak category.

I’m not sure things could have been any tamer. And honestly, how many of these movies actually came to local theaters? I know the two I saw (”Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Departed”) were in theaters in other parts of the state. I’ve since rented some of the others.

The mere fact that Ellen DeGeneres’ hosting job made more headlines than the films and nominees in the weeks running up to the show says a lot about the industry’s predictability. Is it really such a big deal that a successful comedienne is hosting the Oscars, even if she does play for the other team? (”Look, honey: A real, live lesbian at a major Hollywood event! Does it make us gay if we laugh at her?”)

So, truth is, if you missed the show, you probably didn’t miss anything. I know I didn’t see the broadcast, but woke up feeling like I’d put those 3.5 hours to better use.

    OKAY TIME FOR MY RANT.
I couldn’t sit and watch the whole show (I had better things to do).

Jennifer Hudson predictable, but she deserved it:)

Best Supporting actor…I was rooting for Eddie Murphy. Sure the character was as flamboyant like every other character he’s ever played. But I think he should’ve gotten it. I loved Little Miss Sunshine, but come on now.

I did enjoy Ellen so I guess I’m a lesbian (not really).

Oh yeah I think Beyonce was bitter for not being nominated. It must suck to get the weak passive role in the movie. And the other girl in Dream Girls what’s her name? Well I felt bad because she was stuck in the back while the rest of the cast was up front…just thought I’d throw that out there. Muahaha

Travis, if you keep making ethnically insensitive comments, you’re going to get my blog shut down!!!! (Do some research on Wikipedia if you really want to know.)

But what about MY feelings, Travis? Do I not know the sting of anti-semitism? Don’t you remember when I couldn’t get wings at Hooters because the woman (who looked like Scary Spice) kept making racial epithets?

Nothing against “The Departed,” but it seems like the Academy was basically playing a little CYA for blowing Scorcese off in past years. How he didn’t win for “Raging Bull,” “Goodfellas” or “Gangs of New York” is beyond me. Those three movies were WAY better than those he lost to (Robert Redford - “Ordinary People;” Kevin Freaking Costner - “Dances With Wolves;” and Roman Polanski - “The Pianist”).

Michael, I saw the Departed with you. I think I was somewhat tipsy. I liked the movie, I haven’t seen Little Miss Sunshine but I like the commercials, it looks cute and it has the guy who plays Michael Scott, Regional Manager for Dunder Mifflin in it. I won’t go see Dreamgirls but I am staying glued to the TV waiting for the commercial for that ab belt to come back on, and FYI the name Scorcese doesn’t even sound Jewish. Come on.

Wow, that ascii I posted was really messed up. Hey, so mailing you Dreamgirls is a deathwish? Do you remember how bad the Transporter really was? I bet Dreamgirls doesn’t even show Beonce deflecting a rocket with a piepan, only to leave it out in the real move.
